Thank you very much. An excellent, comprehensive article. I spent over 20 years in the Storage, Backup and Disaster Recovery field in IT, and most people would be surprised or shocked to find out how many companies and government agencies fail to protect and store their data. Data "alteration" or selective recovery is not unheard of either.

For personal backups, I'd add make sure you have a copy of data NOT stored in the cloud. An external USB drive is cheap insurance. Manage your data to reduce the amount necessary for backups, and be prepared for the challenge of your archive continuing to grow. I cannot stress enough you should also test recovery of your data from your backups and D/R hardware, ESPECIALLY when using encryption. It's a sinking feeling knowing the bytes are there, but not accessible when needed....
